HEMPSTEAD, Texas (Interstat) — The Jackson State Lady Tigers visit the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers on Thursday in a Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup featuring two teams looking to build momentum late in the season. The game tips off at 5:30 p.m. CST at the William Nicks Building. Jackson State (9-17, 7-6 SWAC) enters on a modest upswing, having won three of its last five games. The Lady Tigers are coming off a 52-49 overtime road victory against Alcorn State on Saturday. Prairie View (2-24, 2-11) seeks to end a prolonged slump, carrying a 10-game losing streak into the contest. The Lady Panthers fell 81-56 at Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their last outing. A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top scorers. Jackson State is led by guard Jaileyah Cotton, who is averaging 15.7 points over her last three games. She posted a dominant double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds in the win over Alcorn State. Prairie View will counter with guard Crystal Schultz, who has scored 20 or more points in two of her last four games, including a 20-point performance against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Lady Tigers won the previous meeting this season handily, defeating Prairie View 62-43 in Jackson on Jan. 17. In that game, Jackson State’s defense forced 22 Prairie View turnovers. For Jackson State, a victory would secure a winning record in SWAC play and solidify its positioning for the upcoming conference tournament. Prairie View, meanwhile, aims to find a spark at home and replicate its last conference win, which came on Jan. 10. Following this game, Jackson State visits Texas Southern on Saturday. Prairie View hosts Alcorn State the same day.
