Preview: Bethune-Cookman Wildcats at Grambling Lady Tigers GRAMBLING, La. (Interstat) — The Grambling State Lady Tigers will look to build on their highest-scoring performance of the season when they host the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats in a Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup Thursday night at Fredrick Hobdy Assembly Center. Grambling (10-17, 8-6 SWAC) is coming off an 84-59 rout of Mississippi Valley State on Monday, led by 19 points from guard Shaniah Nunn. The sophomore has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 15.4 points over her last eight games. Her scoring punch will be central against a Wildcats defense that has struggled. Bethune-Cookman (6-22, 5-9) arrives on a five-game losing skid, most recently a 43-55 home loss to Alabama A&M where the team shot just 27.9% from the field. The Wildcats rely heavily on forward Tyler Butler, who recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds and two blocks in that defeat. Butler has been a defensive anchor, but Bethune-Cookman’s offensive inconsistencies have persisted. In the previous meeting this season on Jan. 10 in Daytona Beach, Grambling secured a 67-60 victory. The Lady Tigers have won three of their last five conference games, showing improved form at home. For Bethune-Cookman, reversing recent trends requires finding supplementary scoring beyond Butler. Guards Kailyn Peters and Mya Johnson provided modest contributions in the last outing but will need larger roles to challenge Grambling’s defense. The Lady Tigers, currently in the middle of the SWAC standings, aim to solidify their positioning before next week’s regular-season finale. Bethune-Cookman, near the bottom, seeks to disrupt that plan and snap its prolonged slide. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CST. Grambling will travel to Alabama A&M next Tuesday, while Bethune-Cookman visits Southern on Saturday.
