Preview: Alcorn State Lady Braves at Texas Southern Lady Tigers HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Alcorn State Lady Braves visit the Texas Southern Lady Tigers in a Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, at Health & P.E. Arena. Alcorn State (13-11) enters looking to rebound from a narrow 52-49 overtime loss to Jackson State last Saturday. The Lady Braves had won five of their previous six games prior to that defeat. Texas Southern (9-18) seeks to halt a five-game losing streak, most recently a 78-64 road loss to Mississippi Valley State. The game features a compelling duel between two of the SWAC’s top performers. Alcorn State is led by Nakia Cheathman, who is coming off a 19-point, 13-rebound effort against Jackson State. Over her last seven games, Cheathman has averaged 13.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Texas Southern will counter with high-scoring guard Taliyah Logwood, who has been on a remarkable offensive tear. Logwood poured in 33 points against Mississippi Valley State and 32 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff last week, averaging 23.7 points over her last five contests. In the previous meeting this season on Jan. 17 in Lorman, Mississippi, Alcorn State secured a 66-51 victory over Texas Southern. The Lady Braves have found success with a balanced attack and stout defense, holding opponents to 60 points or fewer in four of their last seven wins. Texas Southern, despite its record, has shown explosive scoring potential, largely fueled by Logwood, but has struggled to consistently string together stops. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CST in Houston.
