Preview: West Virginia Visits UCF in Big 12 Womenās Basketball OVIEDO, Fla. (Interstat) ā The West Virginia Mountaineers look to continue their push for a high seed in the Big 12 Conference tournament when they visit the struggling UCF Knights on Wednesday night at CFE Arena. West Virginia (22-6, 11-4 Big 12) enters on a dominant note, coming off a 72-40 rout of Oklahoma State last Saturday. The Mountaineers have won five of their last six games, with their only loss in that stretch a 59-50 defeat at TCU on Feb. 15. UCF (10-17, 3-12) seeks to halt a seven-game losing streak, most recently a 73-60 loss at Cincinnati. The Knights have found consistent wins hard to secure in conference play. The matchup is a stark contrast in trajectories. West Virginia, powered by a formidable defense and balanced scoring, is firmly in the conferenceās upper tier. UCF has struggled to keep pace offensively during its skid. A key player for the Mountaineers is forward Kierra Wheeler, who is coming off a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds against Oklahoma State. In the teamsā first meeting this season, a 106-56 West Virginia victory in Morgantown on Feb. 11, Wheeler scored 18 points in just 20 minutes. UCF will rely on forward Mahogany Chandler-Roberts, who has been a bright spot during the losing streak. She led the Knights with 19 points and seven rebounds in the loss to Cincinnati and scored 12 points in the first matchup with West Virginia. For the Knights, reversing the result from three weeks ago will require a significant defensive improvement. West Virginiaās 106 points in that game were a season-high allowed by UCF. The Mountaineers also forced 27 turnovers. West Virginiaās backcourt of Jordan Harrison and Gia Cooke, who combined for 33 points in the last outing, will challenge UCFās perimeter defense. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. EST tip-off Wednesday at CFE Arena.
