LAWRENCE, Kan. (Interstat) — A surging Kansas team will seek to avenge a recent loss and disrupt Texas Tech’s championship aspirations when the Big 12 women’s basketball rivals meet Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks (17-11, 9-8 Big 12), winners of four of their last five, host the Lady Raiders (24-5, 13-4) in a critical late-season conference clash. Texas Tech, sitting near the top of the league standings, aims to rebound from a 75-68 road loss at Colorado last Saturday that snapped a three-game winning streak. Kansas, coming off a 75-68 victory at Kansas State, is fueled by the memory of a 70-65 defeat in Lubbock on Feb. 10. Guard S’Mya Nichols, who scored 15 points in that first meeting, has been stellar for Kansas, averaging 19.1 points per game. She dropped 22 points and dished nine assists in a win over Houston on Feb. 14. Texas Tech counters with forward Jalynn Bristow, a versatile defensive presence who blocked five shots and scored 18 points in the loss to Colorado. Her rim protection will be key against a Kansas offense averaging 78.5 points at home. The Lady Raiders won the first matchup by holding Kansas to 36.2% shooting. Replicating that defensive effort on the road is their primary challenge. A win would solidify their seeding for the upcoming Big 12 tournament, while Kansas looks to bolster its NCAA tournament resume with a signature victory.
