MOBILE, Ala. (Interstat) β The Southern Mississippi Lady Eagles and the South Alabama Jaguars meet Wednesday night at the Mitchell Center in a late-season womenβs NCAA Division I non-conference clash, with both teams looking to build momentum. Southern Mississippi (14-14) enters on the heels of a high-scoring 97-80 loss at Troy, where despite the defeat, Meloney Thames poured in 24 points. The Lady Eagles have been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses over their last eight games. Thames has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 17.4 points over her last five outings, including a 25-point performance at Toledo on Feb. 7. South Alabama (10-17) snapped a six-game skid with a gritty 64-59 road win at Texas State last Saturday. Daniela Gonzalez led the way with 14 points and seven rebounds in that victory. The Jaguars have struggled to find consistent offense, but Gonzalez has been a key contributor, averaging 11.8 points and 4.4 assists over her last five games. The lone previous meeting this season was a decisive 84-65 victory for Southern Mississippi at home on Dec. 18, 2025. The Lady Eagles will look to replicate that performance and climb back to .500 overall, while the Jaguars aim to protect their home court and string together consecutive wins for the first time since late December. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday. Southern Mississippi travels to Louisiana-Monroe next on Friday, while South Alabama hosts Troy the same night.
