Preview: San Jose State at Nevada Women’s Basketball RENO, Nev. (Interstat) — Two Mountain West teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Nevada Wolf Pack hosts the San Jose State Spartans in a women’s basketball matchup at Lawlor Events Center. The game is a rematch of a Jan. 21 contest in San Jose, where the Spartans (4-24, 2-13 MW) edged the Wolf Pack 60-57 for one of their two conference wins this season. Nevada (8-19, 3-12) will look to avenge that loss on its home floor. San Jose State enters on a five-game losing streak since its last victory, a 58-56 win over Utah State on Feb. 18. The Spartans are coming off a 71-48 home loss to Boise State on Saturday. Guard Maya Anderson has been a consistent bright spot, scoring 20 points in that defeat and averaging 16.4 points over her last eight games. She leads the team in scoring. Nevada has also struggled, losing four of its last five, including an 81-64 defeat at UNLV on Saturday. Guard Ahrray Young, who had 11 points and six assists against the Rebels, is a key facilitator for the Wolf Pack offense. Both teams rank near the bottom of the conference standings. San Jose State’s offense has been hampered by inconsistency, while Nevada has faced defensive challenges, particularly during its recent skid. Wednesday’s contest represents one of the final opportunities for each squad to build confidence before the Mountain West tournament. Following this game, San Jose State visits Grand Canyon on Saturday. Nevada will remain at home to face New Mexico the same day. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. PST at Lawlor Events Center.
