BOISE, Idaho (Interstat) — A marquee Mountain West women’s basketball showdown with conference title implications is set for Wednesday when the San Diego State Aztecs visit the Boise State Broncos. Both teams enter Taco Bell Arena riding high, with San Diego State at 22-4 overall and Boise State at 22-6. The Aztecs have won seven of their last eight, including a 68-59 victory over Fresno State on Saturday. The Broncos have won five of their last six, coming off a dominant 71-48 road win at San Jose State. The matchup features two of the league’s top guards in San Diego State’s Nala Williams and Boise State’s Tatum Thompson. Thompson, a dynamic scorer for the Broncos, poured in 25 points against San Jose State and is averaging 16.3 points per game over her last seven contests. History heavily favors the Aztecs, who dismantled Boise State 83-54 in the teams’ first meeting on Dec. 20 in San Diego. The Broncos will seek to defend their home court and avenge that lopsided loss, which stands as their most decisive defeat of the season. The game is a critical late-season test for both squads as they jockey for seeding in the upcoming Mountain West tournament. San Diego State’s potent offense, averaging 71.2 points per game, will challenge a stout Boise State defense that has held opponents to 56.2 points per contest at home.
