Preview: South Dakota State at North Dakota State FARGO, N.D. (Interstat) — A showdown for Summit League supremacy is set for Wednesday when the North Dakota State Bison host the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in a top-15 women’s basketball clash at Scheels Arena. The matchup features the conference’s top two teams, with North Dakota State (22-2, 12-1 Summit) holding a one-game lead over South Dakota State (22-6, 11-2). The Bison, whose only losses are to ranked non-conference opponents, carry a 12-game winning streak and are a perfect 12-0 at home this season. South Dakota State seeks redemption after North Dakota State won the first meeting 76-68 in Brookings on Jan. 17. Since that loss, the Jackrabbits have won seven straight games by an average margin of 31.3 points. The game will be headlined by a duel between two of the nation’s premier forwards. South Dakota State’s Brooklyn Meyer enters on a tear, averaging 22.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists over her last seven games. She posted a 44-point effort at Oral Roberts on Feb. 19. North Dakota State counters with Avery Koenen, who has recorded a double-double in four of her last six outings. She is averaging 20.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game during that span, including a 30-point, 14-rebound performance at South Dakota on Feb. 21. Both teams are dominant defensively. The Bison lead the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 49.2 points per game. The Jackrabbits rank in the top 10, yielding 54.7 points per contest. A Jackrabbits victory would force a tie atop the league standings with one weekend remaining. A Bison win would clinch at least a share of the regular-season title and the seed in the upcoming Summit League Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
