Preview: Fort Wayne Looks to Sweep Season Series Against Struggling Milwaukee MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — The Fort Wayne Mastodons, riding a two-game skid but still in the upper tier of the Horizon League, visit the struggling Milwaukee Panthers on Wednesday night at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. Fort Wayne (16-12) aims to rebound from a 71-76 home loss to Youngstown State on Saturday and complete a regular-season sweep of Milwaukee. The Mastodons won the first meeting 70-60 on Dec. 10 behind a balanced scoring attack. Milwaukee (8-21) seeks to end a five-game losing streak, most recently a 57-91 defeat at Green Bay. The Mastodons are led by guard Alana Nelson, who is averaging 15.1 points per game over her last seven contests. She scored 21 points in the loss to Youngstown State and erupted for 25 points in a win over Detroit on Feb. 1. Her consistent production will be key for a Fort Wayne offense that has shown potency, scoring 84 points or more in three of its last six games. Milwaukee will counter with forward Jorey Buwalda, who has been a bright spot during the team’s difficult season. She is averaging 11.7 points and 5.0 rebounds over her last seven games, including a 17-point, 8-rebound performance in a win over Wright State on Jan. 31. While Fort Wayne has lost four of its last six, its overall record and earlier victory over Milwaukee make it the favorite. The Panthers have found wins scarce, with only one victory since Jan. 31. Their defense has been a particular concern, allowing an average of 77.2 points during their current five-game slide. The matchup pits Fort Wayne’s offensive capability against a Milwaukee team searching for consistency on both ends of the floor. A win would bolster the Mastodons’ conference standing, while the Panthers are desperate to build momentum before their regular-season finale against IUPUI on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday in Milwaukee.
