HARRISONBURG, Va. (Interstat) — A surging James Madison women’s basketball team will look to complete a regular-season sweep when it hosts Old Dominion on Wednesday night at the JMU Convocation Center. The Dukes (21-8), winners of seven straight, dominated the first meeting just 11 days prior, routing the Lady Monarchs 87-53 in Norfolk on Feb. 14. James Madison has not lost since Jan. 25, a stretch powered by efficient play on both ends of the floor. Old Dominion (17-12) enters having won two of its last three, including a 73-60 victory at Coastal Carolina on Saturday. That performance was fueled by a breakout game from guard Mariah Clayton, who scored a career-high 28 points. Clayton’s production has been volatile; she was held to just one point in seven minutes in the prior loss to JMU. Her ability to impact the rematch will be a key factor for the Lady Monarchs. James Madison is led by guard Ashanti Barnes, who is coming off a 23-point, 7-rebound performance in a 74-48 win over Appalachian State. In the Feb. 14 win over ODU, Barnes filled the stat sheet with 4 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Her all-around versatility anchors a balanced Dukes attack that features double-double threat Peyton McDaniel. The Dukes have been dominant at home this season, while Old Dominion has struggled on the road, making the task for the Lady Monarchs particularly steep. A win for JMU would solidify its momentum heading into the final stretch of conference play, while Old Dominion seeks a statement road victory to bolster its resume. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. James Madison will host Coastal Carolina on Friday, while Old Dominion travels to face Appalachian State.
