LOGAN, Utah (Interstat) — A surging New Mexico women’s basketball team looks to continue its push toward the top of the Mountain West standings when it visits struggling Utah State on Wednesday night. The Lobos (19-9, 9-4 MW) have won three of their last four, including a dominant 73-53 victory over Air Force last Saturday. They currently sit in a tie for third place in the conference. Utah State (6-20, 2-11) has lost eight consecutive games and sits at the bottom of the league. The Aggies’ last win came on Jan. 21. New Mexico, which defeated Utah State 58-33 in Albuquerque on Jan. 31, is led by forward Jessie Joaquim. She is coming off a double-double performance against Air Force, scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in 25 minutes. In the first meeting with Utah State this season, Joaquim posted 12 rebounds and four points. The Aggies will rely on forward Rachel Wilson, their most consistent offensive threat during the losing streak. Wilson scored 16 points and added eight rebounds in a loss at Grand Canyon last Saturday. She has averaged 14.5 points over her last two contests. The Lobos have found success with balanced contributions. In the win over Air Force, Alyssa Hargrove added five rebounds, five assists and a block, while Cacia Antonio just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Utah State has struggled to score, failing to reach 60 points in 10 of its last 11 games. The Aggies are allowing 70.1 points per game in conference play, the highest mark in the Mountain West. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. MST at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Following this contest, New Mexico travels to face Nevada on Saturday, while Utah State visits Boise State.
