Preview: Gardner-Webb at South Carolina Upstate Womenâs Basketball SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Interstat) â Two teams seeking momentum at the close of the regular season will meet Wednesday when the Gardner-Webb Runninâ Bulldogs visit the South Carolina Upstate Spartans in a Big South Conference womenâs basketball game. The matchup at the G.B. Hodge Center features teams with nearly identical records. Gardner-Webb enters at 11-17 overall, while South Carolina Upstate sits at 10-18. Both squads are looking to build on recent victories after enduring difficult stretches. Gardner-Webb snapped a three-game skid with a 53-51 road win at Longwood on Feb. 18 but is coming off an 83-53 home loss to High Point this past Saturday. In that defeat, guard Nyla Walker led the Runninâ Bulldogs with 12 points. Walker has been a consistent contributor, averaging 7.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game this season. She scored 11 points and dished out six assists in a win over Winthrop on Feb. 7. The Spartans arrive with confidence after a thrilling 65-63 double-overtime home victory against Longwood on Saturday. Forward Aijah Palmore was instrumental in the win, finishing just shy of a double-double with 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Palmore averages 6.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game for Upstate. The teamsâ first meeting this season was a narrow 64-61 road victory for the Spartans at Gardner-Webb back on Jan. 10. That result guarantees a series split will be on the line in Wednesdayâs rematch. Gardner-Webb has found more success on the road in conference play recently, winning three of its last five away games. South Carolina Upstate has struggled at home, with Saturdayâs double-overtime win marking just its second victory at the Hodge Center since late January. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday. Gardner-Webb will host Radford on Saturday in its next contest, while South Carolina Upstate travels to face High Point.
