Preview: Georgia Southern Eyes Sun Belt Road Win at Appalachian State BOONE, N.C. (Interstat) ā A surging Georgia Southern womenās basketball team will look to continue its push near the top of the Sun Belt Conference when it visits Appalachian State on Wednesday. The Eagles (20-6) enter Holmes Center on a three-game winning streak and have won seven of their last eight. The Mountaineers (11-16), meanwhile, seek to halt a three-game skid and improve their conference standing. Georgia Southernās success is fueled by a potent offense and the standout play of guard Kishyah Anderson. The dynamic scorer has been on a tear, averaging 20.1 points over her last seven games. She posted a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Arkansas State on Feb. 11 and scored 31 points against Southern Mississippi on Jan. 28. In the teamās most recent win, a 67-54 victory over Louisiana-Monroe, Anderson added 19 points and seven rebounds. Appalachian State will counter with forward Feryal Defne Atli, who is coming off an 11-point, seven-rebound performance in a loss to James Madison. The Mountaineers have shown resilience at home, including an overtime victory over Georgia State on Feb. 14. The Eagles won the seasonās first meeting decisively, 67-54, in Statesboro on Dec. 20. Appalachian State will need to contain Anderson and find consistent scoring beyond Atli to reverse that result. Elena Pericic, who led the team with 14 points against James Madison, is a key contributor. Georgia Southernās defense has been a hallmark, holding opponents to 60 points or fewer in four of its last five wins. Appalachian State has struggled offensively during its losing streak, failing to reach 65 points in any of the three games. Tipoff is set for Wednesday night. Georgia Southern visits Marshall next on Friday, while Appalachian State hosts Old Dominion the same day.
