CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonels look to solidify their standing and complete a regular-season sweep when they visit the Austin Peay Governors in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup Wednesday. Eastern Kentucky (22-7) enters the Dunn Center having dropped two straight, including a 54-69 loss at Stetson on Saturday, but remains the more seasoned contender. Austin Peay (15-11), coming off a dominant 82-41 win over Bellarmine, seeks to avenge a 60-67 home loss to the Lady Colonels just over two weeks ago on Feb. 7. The focal point will be Eastern Kentucky guard Joseana Vaz, who torched the Governors for 33 points and six rebounds in the first meeting. Vaz has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 18.4 points over her last eight games and scoring 22 in the loss to Stetson. Austin Peay will counter with forward Ines Gnahore, who is coming off a season-high 23-point, 7-rebound performance against Bellarmine. Her production has been variable, however, as she was held to just four points in the previous matchup with Eastern Kentucky. The Lady Colonels’ recent skid includes narrow road losses to Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson, but their defense had been a key strength during a prior five-game win streak. Austin Peay has struggled for consistency in conference play, alternating wins and losses in its last six outings. History favors Eastern Kentucky, which has won the last two meetings. The Governors will need a more complete performance to protect their home court and improve their postseason positioning, while the Lady Colonels aim to regain momentum ahead of their final regular-season game. Tip-off is set for Wednesday night at the Winfield Dunn Center.
