Preview: East Carolina Looks to Rebound Against Struggling Memphis MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Interstat) — The East Carolina women’s basketball team aims to bounce back from a narrow loss when it visits Memphis in an American Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday night at FedExForum. The Pirates (20-8) enter on the heels of a 60-58 home defeat to Rice on Saturday, which snapped a five-game winning streak. Despite the loss, forward Anzhane’ Hutton continued her dominant play, recording 18 points and 14 rebounds. Over her last eight games, Hutton is averaging 14.9 points and 6.4 rebounds, providing consistent production for ECU. East Carolina previously handled Memphis this season, earning a 74-65 home victory on Jan. 3. The Pirates have won seven of their last 10 games overall. Memphis (8-19) seeks to halt a prolonged slump, having lost eight consecutive games. The Tigers’ most recent outing was a 65-62 loss at Temple on Sunday, a game in which guard Daejah Richmond scored 21 points with seven rebounds, six assists and three blocks. Richmond has been a bright spot during the skid, averaging 16.6 points over her last six contests. The Tigers’ last win came on Jan. 23 against UTSA. Their conference record reflects their season-long struggles. East Carolina, sitting near the top of the AAC standings, will rely on Hutton and guard Kennedy Fauntleroy, who had 16 points and eight assists against Rice, to control the tempo. Memphis will need another all-around performance from Richmond to challenge the Pirates and protect its home court. Following this game, East Carolina hosts Charlotte on Saturday. Memphis travels to face Texas-San Antonio on Sunday.
