BALTIMORE (Interstat) β Two Patriot League womenβs basketball teams looking to halt slides will meet Sunday when Loyola Maryland hosts Colgate at Reitz Arena. The Greyhounds (11-15, 7-8 Patriot) have dropped three of their last four, including a 61-48 loss at Army on Wednesday. Lex Therien led Loyola with 16 points in that contest, continuing a strong stretch for the junior. She has averaged 13.4 points over her last eight games. Colgate (6-19, 4-11) arrives in Baltimore mired in a deeper slump, having lost five straight since a Jan. 31 overtime win over Lehigh. The Raiders are coming off a 77-70 overtime defeat to Boston University on Wednesday, a game in which standout guard Ella Meabon scored 25 points. Meabon has been a bright spot, averaging 15.1 points per game in February. This matchup is a quick rematch of a Jan. 14 thriller in Hamilton, New York, where Loyola edged Colgate 49-47. The Greyhounds have won the last four meetings between the programs. For Loyola, consistency on offense remains a focus after being held under 50 points in two of their last three outings. Defensively, they will aim to contain Meabon, who is capable of high-volume scoring, as evidenced by her 24- and 25-point performances earlier this month. Colgate, which has struggled to find scoring beyond Meabon during its skid, will need to improve upon a league-worst offense that averages just 53.2 points per game in conference play. Slowing Therien inside will be a key defensive assignment. With the Patriot League tournament approaching, both teams are seeking momentum. Loyola sits in the middle of the conference standings, while Colgate is near the bottom. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST on Sunday, Feb. 22.
