CORVALLIS, Ore. (Interstat) — A surging Oregon State looks to continue its push toward postseason play when it hosts struggling Washington State in a women’s basketball matchup Saturday at Gill Coliseum. The Beavers (18-9) enter the contest having won three of their last four games, including a 70-60 road victory over Pacific on Feb. 14. They are led by standout guard Kennedie Shuler, who is coming off a dominant 31-point, five-rebound performance in that win. Shuler has averaged 22.8 points over her last five contests, providing the offensive firepower for an Oregon State team seeking to solidify its resume. Washington State (5-22) has lost eight of its last nine games and faces a steep challenge on the road. The Cougars fell 78-64 to these same Beavers in Pullman on Jan. 8. Their recent 61-68 loss to Portland on Feb. 12 typified their season, showing competitive flashes but ultimately falling short. The Cougars will rely on guard Charlotte Abraham, who has been a bright spot during the difficult season. Abraham scored 18 points in the loss to Portland and has averaged 14.2 points over her last five outings. Support from Eleonora Villa, who had 15 points and seven assists against Portland, will be crucial for Washington State to keep pace. Oregon State’s defense, which held Pacific to 60 points and San Diego to 43 in a Jan. 29 win, will aim to contain Abraham and force turnovers. The Beavers have shown vulnerability, however, in recent losses to Santa Clara and Portland. The game marks the second meeting of the season between the Pac-12 foes. Oregon State will look to complete the regular-season sweep behind Shuler’s scoring and a supportive home crowd, while Washington State searches for a rare conference upset to build momentum for the final stretch. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon.
