HAMMOND, La. (Interstat) — A surging Texas-Rio Grande Valley squad looks to continue its push in the Southland Conference standings when it visits struggling Southeastern Louisiana in a women’s basketball matchup Saturday at the University Center. The Vaqueros (16-11) have won six of their last eight games and sit firmly in the conference’s upper tier. They aim to bounce back from a 60-53 road loss at McNeese State on Thursday. Their success has been fueled by the all-around play of guard Jalayah Ingram, who is coming off a 13-point, 15-rebound, 7-assist performance in a narrow loss to Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 14. Over her last seven games, Ingram is averaging 17.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 6.0 assists. The host Lions (4-21) have lost three straight and 10 of their last 11, most recently falling 76-69 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday. Their offense leans heavily on guard Aliyah Collins, who exploded for 30 points in that defeat. Collins has scored 21 or more points in three of her last five contests. When the teams met in Edinburg on Jan. 15, UTRGV secured a 78-65 victory. The Vaqueros have dominated the recent series, winning the last five meetings. For Southeastern Louisiana, the game represents a chance to play spoiler and find momentum before the conference tournament. For UTRGV, it is a critical opportunity to solidify its seeding and get back on track after its recent stumble. The matchup features a stark contrast in season trajectories, with the Vaqueros’ balanced attack and conference ambitions clashing with the Lions’ search for a signature win behind Collins’ scoring prowess. Tip-off is set for Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, in Hammond.
