NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) ā The SIU Edwardsville Cougars, riding a three-game winning streak, will look to continue their late-season surge when they visit the struggling Tennessee State Tigers in an Ohio Valley Conference womenās basketball matchup on Saturday. The Cougars (13-14) arrive at the Howard Gentry Complex fresh off a 76-60 road victory at Tennessee Tech on Thursday. SIUE has won five of its last eight games to climb near the .500 mark. Tennessee State (4-22) seeks to halt a five-game skid, most recently a 75-70 home loss to Lindenwood. SIUE guard Kiyoko Proctor enters as one of the conferenceās hottest players. She is averaging 17.1 points over her last seven contests, including a 23-point performance in the win over Tennessee Tech. Her backcourt leadership has been central to the Cougarsā improved form. For the Tigers, forward Erin Martin provides a defensive presence and scoring spark. She tallied 18 points and two blocks in the loss to Lindenwood and will be a key factor against a confident SIUE offense. The teams met just last month in Edwardsville, with the Cougars securing a decisive 63-41 victory. SIUEās defense held Tennessee State to its second-lowest point total of the season in that contest. A win would give SIUE a season sweep and move the team closer to an even overall record. Tennessee State, anchored at the bottom of the OVC standings, will look to leverage home court and find an offensive rhythm to pull an upset. Tipoff is set for Saturday at Howard Gentry Complex. SIUE travels to face Western Illinois next Thursday, while Tennessee State visits Southeast Missouri State.
