Preview: South Carolina State at Norfolk State Womenās Basketball NORFOLK, Va. (Interstat) ā The Norfolk State Spartans will look to continue their push for a winning season when they host the struggling South Carolina State Bulldogs in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference womenās basketball game Saturday at Echols Hall. Norfolk State (13-12 overall) enters the contest having won three of its last four, including a 77-45 rout of Delaware State on Feb. 14. The Spartans have found consistency behind guard Jasha Clinton, who averaged 12.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists over her last five games. In the previous meeting this season, Norfolk State dominated South Carolina State, 85-41, on Jan. 17. South Carolina State (5-20) seeks to end a six-game losing streak. The Bulldogs are coming off a narrow 68-65 home loss to North Carolina Central on Wednesday. Guard Lemyiah Harris has been a bright spot during the skid, averaging 13.8 points over her last five contests. She scored 19 points in the loss to North Carolina Central. The Bulldogsā offense has sputtered, failing to reach 70 points in any game during their current losing streak and being held under 50 three times. They will need a significant performance from Harris and improved scoring support to challenge the Spartans on the road. Norfolk State, which has won four straight at home, will aim to control the tempo and leverage its defensive strength. The Spartans have held opponents to 58 points or fewer in three of their last four victories. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, Feb. 21. Following this matchup, Norfolk State travels to face Morgan State on Thursday, Feb. 26. South Carolina Stateās next game is at Delaware State on the same date.
