STAR CITY, W.Va. (Interstat) — Two of the Big 12’s top teams will collide Saturday when West Virginia hosts Oklahoma State in a critical late-season conference matchup at WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers (21-6, 10-4 Big 12) and Cowgirls (21-7, 9-5) enter separated by just one game in the league standings, making this a pivotal contest for postseason seeding. Both teams are looking to rebound from recent road losses; West Virginia fell 59-50 at TCU last Sunday, while Oklahoma State dropped a 70-61 decision at Kansas State on Feb. 10 before righting itself with two home wins. West Virginia’s offense runs through guard Gia Cooke, who is averaging 15.2 points over her last six games. She scored a team-high 18 in the loss to TCU. The Mountaineers boast one of the nation’s top defenses, but have shown occasional scoring lulls, as in the TCU game where they managed just 50 points. Oklahoma State counters with a balanced attack led by forward Haleigh Timmer. She is coming off a strong performance in Monday’s 73-55 win over Utah, posting 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Support comes from guards Micah Gray and Achol Akot, who combined for 29 points against the Utes. The game will feature a contrast in styles. West Virginia will rely on its defensive pressure and half-court execution, while Oklahoma State will look to push tempo and utilize its interior presence. The Cowgirls have won three of their last four, but face a stern test in a hostile road environment. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST. The Mountaineers visit UCF next Wednesday, while the Cowgirls travel to Iowa State on Feb. 25.
