GREEN BAY, Wis. (Interstat) — The Horizon League’s top women’s basketball team looks to get back on track Saturday when the Green Bay Phoenix host the struggling Milwaukee Panthers. Green Bay (20-7, 12-4 Horizon) enters the 1 p.m. contest at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon having dropped two straight, including a 77-59 home loss to Northern Kentucky on Feb. 14. The Phoenix had won five consecutive games prior to the skid and remain in contention for the conference regular-season title. Milwaukee (8-20, 5-11) has lost five of its last six, most recently a 77-55 defeat at Wright State on Wednesday. The Panthers sit near the bottom of the league standings. Green Bay won the season’s first meeting handily, 76-61, in Milwaukee on Jan. 17. The Phoenix have dominated the series historically. A key matchup will feature each team’s leading scorer. Milwaukee’s Grace Lomen is coming off a 15-point performance at Wright State and has been a bright spot, including a 30-point outing in an overtime loss at Robert Morris on Feb. 7. The Panthers will need a high-volume scoring afternoon from her to challenge the Phoenix. For Green Bay, guard Maddy Skorupski provides consistent all-around production. She averaged 17.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the two games prior to the Northern Kentucky loss. Her ability to facilitate and score will be central to Green Bay’s offensive flow. The Phoenix boast a formidable defense, allowing just 58.2 points per game in conference play, while Milwaukee has struggled offensively, averaging only 58.8 points overall. Green Bay’s defensive pressure will likely focus on containing Lomen and forcing other Panthers to score. With the Horizon League tournament approaching, Green Bay aims to solidify its seeding, while Milwaukee seeks a signature road upset to build momentum. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
