Preview: Lafayette Leopards at American Eagles WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Two Patriot League women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the Lafayette Leopards visit the American Eagles at Bender Arena. Both programs enter the 2 p.m. tipoff on extended losing streaks. Lafayette (9-17) has dropped three straight, including a 44-53 home loss to Holy Cross on Wednesday. American (6-20) has lost five consecutive games, most recently a 45-58 defeat to Bucknell on Feb. 18. The matchup is a quick rematch of a Jan. 31 game in Easton, Pennsylvania, where American secured a 70-60 victory. In that contest, American’s Charlotte Tuhy posted a dominant 15-rebound, 9-point performance, while Lafayette’s Teresa Kiewiet scored 16 points. Kiewiet, a key player for the Leopards, will be central to their efforts to split the season series. The guard is averaging 14.3 points over her last seven games, including a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double in a win over Bucknell on Jan. 28. She logged 36 minutes and scored 14 points in the midweek loss to Holy Cross. For the Eagles, forward Charlotte Tuhy remains a consistent interior presence. She is coming off a 17-point, 2-block effort against Bucknell and recorded a 12-point, 15-rebound, 3-block game against Navy on Feb. 7. Her performance on the boards will be critical against a Lafayette team that struggled offensively in its last outing. The game pits Lafayette’s 3-9 conference record against American’s 2-10 mark in Patriot League play. With both teams near the bottom of the standings and only a handful of regular-season games remaining, Saturday represents a crucial opportunity to build confidence before the league tournament. Following this game, Lafayette will travel to Army on Feb. 28, while American will visit Boston University on the same date.
