ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Interstat) — The New Mexico Lobos look to complete a regular-season sweep and solidify their Mountain West standing when they host the Air Force Falcons in a women’s basketball matchup Saturday at The Pit. New Mexico (18-9) enters with a clear record advantage over Air Force (12-14) and won the first meeting decisively, 74-57, on Jan. 24 in Colorado Springs. Lobos guard Joana Magalhães dominated that contest, scoring 29 points in just 26 minutes. She remains a focal point coming off a 17-point, 5-assist performance in Wednesday’s 70-68 road win at Grand Canyon. The Lobos have been inconsistent in February, however, sandwiching that win between a 35-63 loss at Boise State and a 46-66 home defeat to Colorado State. Their performance at The Pit, where they are 10-3 this season, will be key for postseason positioning. Air Force relies on guard Jayda McNabb, who posted 7 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the loss to New Mexico last month. McNabb is averaging 10.1 points per game and is coming off an 11-point effort in a 70-62 loss at Boise State on Wednesday, where Milahnie Perry led the Falcons with 20 points. The Falcons have shown resilience, winning three of their last five games, including a narrow 65-64 victory over Grand Canyon. Their road record, however, stands at just 4-9. A New Mexico victory would strengthen its case for a high seed in the upcoming Mountain West tournament, while Air Force aims to play spoiler and level the season series. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. MST Saturday.
