Preview: Wisconsin Badgers at Southern California Women of Troy LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — The surging Southern California Women of Troy will look to extend their winning streak when they host the struggling Wisconsin Badgers in a Big Ten women’s basketball matchup Thursday night at Galen Center. Southern California (16-9) enters on a five-game winning streak, its longest in conference play this season. The Women of Troy have found their rhythm, averaging 76.8 points per game during the streak while holding opponents to just 61.6. They are coming off a 79-73 home victory over Indiana on Feb. 12. The Badgers (13-13), meanwhile, are mired in a six-game skid, including an 83-60 loss to Minnesota on Sunday. Wisconsin has struggled defensively during the slide, allowing an average of 82 points per contest. The spotlight will be on two of the conference’s standout guards. Southern California is powered by sophomore Jazzy Davidson, who has been exceptional during the win streak. She is averaging 21.8 points, 6.2 assists and 5.2 rebounds over the last five games, including a 27-point, 8-rebound, 8-assist masterpiece in a win at Illinois on Feb. 8. Wisconsin will counter with senior Kyrah Daniels, the team’s most consistent offensive threat. Daniels is averaging 13.1 points per game and scored 18 in the loss to Minnesota. She will need a high-efficiency performance to keep pace with Davidson and the Women of Troy’s balanced attack, which also features Kennedy Smith (15 points vs. Indiana) and Kara Dunn (16 points vs. Indiana). Southern California won the first meeting this season, 71-58, in Madison on Jan. 4. Davidson led all scorers with 22 points in that contest. For Wisconsin to snap its streak, it must improve its perimeter defense and find secondary scoring behind Daniels. Gift Uchenna provided a boost with 14 points off the bench against Minnesota. The Women of Troy, currently positioned in the upper half of the Big Ten standings, are playing for postseason seeding. The Badgers, sitting at .500, are in urgent need of a resume-building victory as the regular season enters its final weeks. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. PST Thursday. Southern California hits the road next to face Ohio State on Sunday, while Wisconsin continues its West Coast swing at UCLA on Feb. 22.
