BOZEMAN, Mont. (Interstat) — A surging Montana State squad looks to continue its push atop the Big Sky Conference standings when it hosts a struggling Weber State team on Thursday night at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The Bobcats (18-6 overall) enter the women’s basketball contest riding a two-game win streak, including a decisive 72-55 road victory over rival Montana on Feb. 14. Montana State, which sits at 9-2 in conference play, has dominated its home court this season, boasting a 10-1 record in Bozeman. Weber State (8-17, 4-7 Big Sky) seeks consistency after an overtime win against Eastern Washington on Feb. 14 snapped a three-game skid. The Wildcats’ 74-72 victory was a rare bright spot in a season marked by offensive struggles, as the team has failed to reach 70 points in 10 of its last 13 games. Montana State handled Weber State easily in their first meeting this season, winning 92-72 in Ogden on Jan. 24. Bobcats guard Ella Johnson was efficient in that win, scoring nine points in 17 minutes. She is coming off a strong 17-point, six-rebound performance against Montana. The Wildcats will lean on forward Antoniette Emma-Nnopu, who is in the midst of a stellar individual stretch. She recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Eastern Washington and has scored in double figures in seven consecutive games, averaging 14.6 points per contest during that span. She scored 17 points in the first matchup with Montana State. Weber State’s challenge will be containing a balanced Montana State offense that leads the Big Sky in scoring margin and has won its last five home games by an average of 30.4 points. The Bobcats have held opponents under 60 points in seven of their 11 home games this season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time. Montana State hosts Idaho State on Saturday, while Weber State travels to face Montana.
