CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Chattanooga Lady Mocs will look to rebound from a heartbreaking double-overtime loss and solidify their standing near the top of the Southern Conference when they host the struggling Western Carolina Catamounts on Thursday night at McKenzie Arena. The matchup pits teams at opposite ends of the league spectrum. Chattanooga (16-7 overall) enters with a winning pedigree, while Western Carolina (3-22) seeks to end a prolonged slump, having lost 12 consecutive games. Their most recent defeat was a 73-54 home loss to Wofford on Feb. 14. The Lady Mocs are coming off a dramatic 91-90 double-overtime loss to East Tennessee State on the same date, a game in which star forward Gianna Corbitt posted 25 points and 13 rebounds. Corbitt has been a consistent force, including a 30-point performance in a win over Furman on Feb. 5. She also recorded a double-double with 8 points and 11 rebounds in Chattanooga’s 61-52 victory over Western Carolina just over three weeks ago on Jan. 24. For the Catamounts, guard Ary Dizon has been a workhorse, averaging nearly 37 minutes per game over her last seven contests. In the Jan. 24 meeting, Dizon contributed 8 points and 6 rebounds. She will need another high-minute effort to challenge a stout Chattanooga defense that has held opponents to 40 points or fewer three times in conference play. The Lady Mocs have dominated the recent series and will be heavily favored at home, where they are 9-2 this season. Western Carolina, which has not won since Dec. 21, continues its search for a conference victory. The Catamounts’ last win was a 65-63 non-conference decision over North Carolina A&T. Thursday’s game tips off at 6:30 p.m. Eastern and will be broadcast on ESPN+. Chattanooga will host UNC Greensboro on Saturday, while Western Carolina travels to face East Tennessee State the same day.
