PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to halt slides in Southwestern Athletic Conference play will meet Thursday when the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Golden Lions host the Texas Southern Lady Tigers at the HPER Complex. Both teams enter with identical 9-16 overall records, though Texas Southern sits at 5-7 in the SWAC while Arkansas-Pine Bluff is 4-8. The matchup is a quick rematch of a Jan. 10 game in Houston, which Texas Southern dominated 80-57. The Lady Tigers, however, arrive on a four-game losing streak. Their most recent outing was a 73-50 home loss to Grambling on Feb. 14. Guard Ayanna Jackson has been a consistent performer for Texas Southern, averaging 10.9 points per game. She is coming off a 17-point, 7-rebound effort in the loss to Grambling. Arkansas-Pine Bluff has dropped its last two contests, including a 79-71 defeat at Alabama State on Feb. 14. The Lady Golden Lions were led in that game by forward Khaniah Gardner, who posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Gardner’s production has been volatile, but she is a key interior presence, averaging 8.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. The game will feature a contrast in recent momentum within the series versus current form. Texas Southern will look to replicate its decisive January win, while Arkansas-Pine Bluff aims to defend its home court and avenge that loss. Both teams are jockeying for positioning ahead of the upcoming SWAC tournament, making this a critical contest for building late-season confidence.
