HAMMOND, La. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to escape the Southland Conference cellar will meet Thursday when the Southeastern Louisiana Lions host the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in a women’s basketball matchup. Both teams enter University Center with identical 4-20 overall records. The Islanders (4-20) and Lions (4-20) are looking to build momentum for the final stretch of the regular season. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi snapped a five-game skid with a 70-64 win over Incarnate Word on Jan. 29 but has since lost four straight, including a 52-58 home loss to Lamar on Saturday. In that game, Torie Sevier contributed 8 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. Sevier, a key player for the Islanders, has shown flashes of high production, scoring 20 points against Incarnate Word on Jan. 24 and 17 against Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 12. Southeastern Louisiana has lost two consecutive games following a two-game win streak earlier this month. The Lions fell 47-62 at Northwestern State on Saturday. Guard Aliyah Collins has been a consistent force, averaging 14.6 points, 4.4 assists and 3.6 rebounds over her last five contests. She posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Houston Christian on Feb. 7. The Islanders won the season’s first meeting, 68-65, in Corpus Christi on Jan. 17. Tipoff is set for Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at the University Center. The Islanders will travel to face McNeese State on Saturday, while the Lions will host Texas-Rio Grande Valley the same day.
