STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — A West Coast Conference women’s basketball rematch with postseason implications is set for Thursday when the San Francisco Dons visit the Pacific Tigers at the A.C. Spanos Center. The Dons (15-10, 5-5 WCC) aim to complete a regular-season sweep after defeating the Tigers 68-61 at home on Jan. 24. San Francisco enters on a high note after an 81-70 victory over Pepperdine last Saturday, which snapped a two-game skid. Pacific (10-15, 3-7), meanwhile, looks to rebound from a 70-60 home loss to Oregon State and avenge its earlier defeat to USF. San Francisco’s fortunes hinge heavily on the play of standout guard Candy Edokpaigbe. She is coming off a career-high 28-point performance against Pepperdine and averaged 22.3 points in three games last week, earning WCC Player of the Week honors. In the first meeting with Pacific, Edokpaigbe scored 23 points in 28 minutes. The Tigers will counter with guard Daria Nestorov, who facilitates their offense. Nestorov struggled in the January loss to USF, scoring just four points, but has been impactful in recent wins, dishing seven assists against Santa Clara and six in an upset at Saint Mary’s. Containing Edokpaigbe while jumpstarting their own offense, which managed only 44 points in a loss to Gonzaga on Feb. 7, will be critical for Pacific. The matchup features contrasting trajectories. San Francisco seeks to solidify its position in the upper half of the conference standings and improve its postseason resume. The Tigers, mired in a 1-3 stretch, are desperate for a signature win to build momentum before hosting first-place Gonzaga on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST. The game will be broadcast on the WCC Network.
