Preview: Sam Houston Bearkats at Kennesaw State Owls KENNESAW, Ga. (Interstat) — The Sam Houston women’s basketball team looks to solidify its winning record and complete a regular-season sweep when it visits Kennesaw State on Thursday night. The Bearkats (15-8) enter the matchup at the KSU Convocation Center having won four of their last six games, though they are coming off a narrow 67-65 home loss to Florida International on Saturday. Sam Houston previously defeated the Owls 62-57 in Huntsville, Texas, on Jan. 31. Guard Whitney Dunn is a key player for Sam Houston. She is coming off a strong 18-point, 4-assist performance in the loss to FIU. In the teams’ first meeting, Dunn contributed 2 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists. Kennesaw State (11-12) seeks to level the season series and get back to .500 after a 71-53 road loss at Middle Tennessee last Saturday. The Owls have shown resilience at home recently, securing wins over Liberty and UTEP in late January. The Owls will rely on forward Trynce Taylor, who posted 15 points and 6 rebounds against Middle Tennessee. In the loss at Sam Houston last month, Taylor led Kennesaw State with 11 points and 4 rebounds in 22 minutes. Sam Houston’s offense has been balanced, with Nyla Inmon and Fanta Kone joining Dunn as consistent contributors. Kennesaw State counters with a defense that held Western Kentucky to 51 points in a win on Feb. 12 and will need a similar effort to contain the Bearkats. The game tips off at 7 p.m. EST Thursday as both teams continue their push in the conference standings ahead of the postseason.
