Preview: Sacramento State Hornets at Eastern Washington Eagles CHENEY, Wash. (Interstat) — Two Big Sky Conference women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Eastern Washington Eagles host the Sacramento State Hornets at Reese Court. Both teams enter the matchup on losing streaks, with the visiting Hornets (11-15, 4-9 Big Sky) having dropped four straight and the Eagles (12-14, 5-8) coming off three consecutive defeats. The game is a rematch of a Jan. 24 contest in Sacramento, which the Hornets won 61-54. Sacramento State will look to replicate that defensive success, particularly against Eastern Washington’s standout guard Ella Gallatin. Gallatin is coming off a career-high 26-point performance in a 74-72 overtime loss at Weber State on Feb. 14 and has scored in double figures in eight straight games, averaging 17.5 points during that stretch. In the first meeting, she was held to 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting. The Hornets counter with forward Keanna Salave’a, who posted 13 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in a 60-55 loss to Northern Arizona on Feb. 14. Her interior presence will be key against an Eagles squad that features Jaecy Eggers, who grabbed 14 rebounds against Weber State. Recent trends favor the Eagles at home, where they are 8-5 this season, including a 76-72 win over Montana on Feb. 5. Sacramento State has struggled on the road, going 3-11, and is averaging just 55.5 points during its current skid. Eastern Washington leads the all-time series 45-31, but the Hornets have won three of the last five meetings. With both teams clustered in the middle of the Big Sky standings, the result could prove critical for seeding in the upcoming conference tournament. Following this game, Sacramento State travels to face Idaho on Saturday. Eastern Washington remains at home to host Portland State the same day.
