ATLANTA (Interstat) — The Old Dominion Lady Monarchs look to solidify their winning season record and complete a regular-season sweep of the Georgia State Panthers when the teams meet in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game Thursday night. Old Dominion (15-12) enters the contest at GSU Sports Arena having lost two straight, including a decisive 87-53 home loss to James Madison on Feb. 14. The Lady Monarchs had won three of their previous four prior to the recent skid. Georgia State (9-17) seeks to end a five-game losing streak, most recently falling 73-67 in overtime at Appalachian State on Feb. 14. In their first meeting this season on Jan. 3 in Norfolk, Va., Old Dominion held off Georgia State for a 73-68 victory. A key player for the Lady Monarchs is Kelsey Thompson, who is coming off a 12-point, three-rebound, two-block performance in 22 minutes against James Madison. Over her last five games, Thompson is averaging 9.8 points and 3.2 rebounds. The Panthers will rely on guard Grace Lanier, who is coming off a career-best 23-point effort in the overtime loss to Appalachian State. Lanier added four rebounds and four assists in that game, showcasing her ability to impact multiple facets of the game. For Old Dominion, En’Dya Buford and Simone Cunningham join Thompson as consistent contributors. Buford had seven points, six rebounds and three assists against James Madison, while Cunningham added 10 points and six rebounds. Georgia State’s Cheyenne Holloman has provided a scoring punch alongside Lanier, posting 22 points and six rebounds in the team’s last outing. The matchup presents a contrast in recent momentum. Old Dominion aims to regain its mid-season form and improve its conference standing, while Georgia State looks to harness the production of its top scorers to snap its prolonged slump on its home floor. Following Thursday’s game, Old Dominion travels to face Coastal Carolina on Saturday. Georgia State remains at home to host Marshall on Saturday.
