Preview: Mississippi Valley State Devilettes at Prairie View Lady Panthers HEMPSTEAD, Texas (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to halt lengthy slides will meet Thursday when the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes visit the Prairie View Lady Panthers in a Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s basketball game. The matchup at William Nicks Building features programs with a combined 6-41 overall record. Mississippi Valley State (4-19) enters on a six-game losing streak, while Prairie View (2-22) has dropped 10 consecutive contests. The Devilettes won the season’s first meeting, 80-73, at Prairie View on Jan. 10. Replicating that result would provide a rare bright spot in a difficult season for both. A key player for Mississippi Valley State is guard Jaeda Murphy, who has been a consistent contributor during the skid. She is coming off an eight-point, seven-assist performance in a 95-55 loss at Alabama A&M on Feb. 14 and scored 15 points with five assists in a narrow 75-72 loss to Alcorn State on Feb. 5. Prairie View will counter with forward CJ Wilson, who has been a standout despite the team’s struggles. Wilson is averaging 16.3 points over her last three games, including a 24-point effort in a loss to Grambling on Feb. 12. She recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds against Texas Southern on Jan. 31. Both teams are coming off decisive defeats last Saturday. Mississippi Valley State fell by 40 points at Alabama A&M, while Prairie View was defeated 60-45 by Southern at home. The game represents one of the remaining opportunities for either squad to build momentum before the SWAC tournament next month. Tipoff is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026.
