CHARLESTON, Ill. (Interstat) — The Morehead State Eagles, riding a wave of momentum, visit the struggling Eastern Illinois Panthers in an Ohio Valley Conference women’s basketball matchup Thursday at Lantz Arena. Morehead State (16-11) enters on the heels of a dominant 79-53 victory over Tennessee State on Saturday. The Eagles have won four of their last six games and sit in the upper tier of the conference standings. Their success has been fueled by guard Landon Forbes, who is coming off a near triple-double performance with 14 points, six rebounds and eight assists in the win. Forbes has been a consistent catalyst, averaging 15.0 points and 4.9 assists over her last seven contests. Eastern Illinois (4-23) seeks to halt a three-game skid and find a bright spot in a difficult season. The Panthers fell 73-53 to Arkansas-Little Rock in their last outing. Forward Adriana Arroyo provided a spark off the bench in that loss, contributing eight points and seven rebounds in 18 minutes. She will look to build on that effort against a familiar foe. This game is a rematch of a Jan. 24 meeting in Morehead, Ky., which the Eagles narrowly won, 52-48. In that defensive struggle, Forbes logged 21 minutes with five points and three rebounds for Morehead State, while Arroyo played seven minutes for Eastern Illinois. The contrast in trajectories is stark. Morehead State, fighting for postseason positioning, boasts a balanced attack and one of the conference’s top playmakers in Forbes. Eastern Illinois, anchored at the bottom of the OVC, has struggled to find consistent offense, averaging just 57.2 points per game. Tipoff is set for Thursday night. The Eagles will aim for a season sweep before traveling to face Western Illinois on Saturday. The Panthers will look to defend their home court before hosting Southern Indiana this weekend.
