Preview: Manhattan Lady Jaspers at Marist Red Foxes POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Manhattan Lady Jaspers visit the Marist Red Foxes at McCann Recreation Center. Manhattan (7-18) enters on a modest two-game winning streak after victories over Niagara and Canisius last week. Marist (10-17) looks to snap a two-game skid following losses to Merrimack in overtime and Rider. The matchup features two of the league’s top individual performers. Manhattan is led by guard Brianna Davis, who is averaging 22.3 points over her last three games. She scored 28 points in 39 minutes in the Lady Jaspers’ 68-55 win over Canisius on Feb. 14. For Marist, forward Justine Henry has been a consistent double-double threat, recording two in her last five games, including a 19-point, 10-rebound effort in the loss to Rider. The Red Foxes won the season’s first meeting, 62-57, at Manhattan on Jan. 3. In that game, Marist overcame a 13-point second-half deficit. Both teams have struggled for consistency this season. Manhattan’s recent wins followed a five-game losing streak. Marist has alternated wins and losses for much of the conference schedule but is 7-6 at home compared to 3-11 on the road. Defense could be a key factor. Manhattan held its last two opponents under 55 points, while Marist has allowed an average of 66.5 points per game in conference play. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Feb. 19. Manhattan visits Iona next on Feb. 26, while Marist travels to Saint Peter’s on the same date.
