JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (Interstat) — A surging Louisiana Tech women’s basketball team looks to continue its dominant run through Conference USA when it visits Jacksonville State on Thursday night. The Lady Techsters (19-5, 11-1 CUSA) enter Pete Mathews Coliseum riding an eight-game winning streak, having solidified their position atop the league standings. Their most recent victory was a narrow 68-67 home win over Missouri State on Feb. 14, secured despite a late rally. Louisiana Tech’s success has been built on stifling defense and balanced scoring. During their streak, they have won by an average margin of 18.6 points. They handily defeated Jacksonville State (12-13, 5-7) just three weeks ago in Ruston, 71-51, holding the Gamecocks to 32.8% shooting from the field. A key player for the Lady Techsters is guard Alexia Weaver, who is averaging 12.1 points and 3.4 assists during the winning streak. She scored 14 points in the first meeting against Jacksonville State and is coming off a 14-point, 4-rebound performance against Missouri State. The Gamecocks, meanwhile, seek to stabilize after losing four of their last five games. They are coming off a 56-41 road loss at Western Kentucky where offensive struggles persisted; the team has failed to reach 60 points in four of its last five outings. Jacksonville State will rely on forward Adriana Jones, who nearly posted a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds in the loss to WKU. Jones was held to just four points in the prior matchup with Louisiana Tech, a performance the Gamecocks must improve upon to challenge the conference leaders. For Jacksonville State, protecting home court is critical for seeding in the upcoming conference tournament. For Louisiana Tech, the game represents another step toward securing a regular-season championship. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
