Preview: Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonels at Florida Gulf Coast Eagles FORT MYERS, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Eastern Kentucky squad looks to continue its dominant run through the ASUN Conference when it visits a struggling Florida Gulf Coast team on Thursday night. The Lady Colonels (22-5 overall) enter Alico Arena riding a wave of momentum, having won eight of their last nine games. Their most recent outing was a convincing 73-56 home victory over North Alabama on Saturday. Joseana Vaz led the way with 17 points and five rebounds, continuing a stellar stretch for the guard. Over her last eight games, Vaz is averaging 15.5 points, including a 33-point outburst in a win over Austin Peay on Feb. 7. Eastern Kentucky’s balanced attack also features consistent contributors Liz Freihofer and Althea Kara Angeles, who combined for 25 points and 10 rebounds against North Alabama. The host Eagles (12-13), however, have found consistency elusive, alternating wins and losses over their past six contests. They are coming off a 62-52 road loss at Stetson on Saturday. Guard Sinai Douglas has been a bright spot, nearly posting a triple-double in that game with 10 points, five rebounds and nine assists. Douglas has shouldered a significant load, scoring in double figures in six of the last eight games and dishing out 37 assists over that span. The matchup pits one of the conference’s top teams against one seeking to climb back to .500. Eastern Kentucky’s defense has been a key to its success, holding opponents to 60 points or fewer in five of its last eight wins. Florida Gulf Coast will need to solve that defensive pressure and find secondary scoring behind Douglas to challenge the league leaders. This women’s NCAA Division I basketball game is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at Alico Arena on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University.
