BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (Interstat) ā The Bowling Green Falcons will look to sweep the season series and solidify their position in the Mid-American Conference standings when they host the Western Michigan Broncos in a womenās basketball matchup Wednesday night at the Stroh Center. Bowling Green (13-12) enters the contest with a winning record, while Western Michigan (7-16) seeks to snap a two-game skid and find consistency in the final stretch of the regular season. The Falcons won the first meeting this season, 61-54, in Kalamazoo on Jan. 14. A key player to watch for the Falcons is forward Lauren Gerken, who is coming off a 16-point, five-rebound performance in a loss to Ball State on Saturday. Gerken has been a versatile threat, scoring in double figures in four of her last seven games and providing a consistent defensive presence with multiple blocks in five of those contests. The Broncos will counter with guard Alli Carlson, who has been a workhorse for her team. Carlson logged 40 minutes and posted 16 points, six rebounds and three assists in a narrow 70-67 loss at Central Michigan last Saturday. Her recent performances include a triple-double (10 points, 10 rebounds, four assists) in a win at Eastern Michigan on Jan. 31, underscoring her all-around importance to Western Michiganās efforts. Bowling Green has shown offensive firepower at home, most recently posting a 93-point outing in a win over Coastal Carolina on Feb. 7. Western Michiganās defense, which allowed just 54 points in its Jan. 31 victory, will need a similar effort to contain the Falconsā attack. Following this game, Bowling Green will prepare for a home contest against Toledo on Saturday. Western Michigan will host Northern Illinois on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
