ST. GEORGE, Utah (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the final stretch of the season will meet Wednesday when the Texas-Arlington Mavericks visit the Utah Tech Trailblazers in a Western Athletic Conference women’s basketball game. The matchup at Burns Arena features programs with a combined 16-32 overall record. Texas-Arlington (10-15) enters having lost two straight, including a 78-67 defeat at Southern Utah on Saturday. Utah Tech (6-17) has lost eight consecutive games, most recently an 82-70 road loss to California Baptist on Feb. 14. The Mavericks won the first meeting this season in dramatic fashion, edging Utah Tech 84-78 in double overtime on Feb. 5 in Arlington. Texas-Arlington also secured a 64-56 home victory over the Trailblazers on Jan. 15. A key figure in the first matchup will be central to the rematch. Texas-Arlington’s Kira Reynolds scored 20 points and blocked four shots in the double-overtime win earlier this month. The standout is coming off a career-high 24-point performance in just 20 minutes against Southern Utah. Over her last five games, Reynolds is averaging 17.8 points. Utah Tech will counter with Brie Crittendon, who logged 45 minutes and scored 23 points in the narrow loss at Texas-Arlington. Crittendon is averaging 20.7 points over her last three contests, including a 20-point, 9-rebound effort against California Baptist. Both teams have struggled for consistency in conference play. The Mavericks’ victory over Utah Tech on Feb. 5 is their only win in the last six games. The Trailblazers’ last win was a 65-54 decision over Utah Valley on Jan. 10. Following Wednesday’s game, Texas-Arlington will travel to face Utah Valley on Saturday. Utah Tech is scheduled to host Tarleton State on Saturday.
