Preview: South Alabama at Troy (Womenās Basketball) TROY, Ala. (Interstat) ā A surging Troy team will look to continue its dominant Sun Belt Conference campaign when it hosts rival South Alabama on Wednesday night at Trojan Arena. The Trojans (21-4) sit atop the league standings and have won 10 of their last 11 games. Their most recent outing was a narrow 82-80 home victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday, powered by a standout performance from forward Fortuna Ngnawo. The junior recorded 24 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks, her eighth double-double of the season. Ngnawo is averaging 18.2 points and 8.1 rebounds over her last six contests. South Alabama (9-16) enters on an eight-game losing skid, including a 57-54 home loss to Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday. Despite the defeat, forward Chrysta Narcisse turned in a formidable performance with 17 rebounds and nine points. Narcisse has been a bright spot during the Jaguarsā struggles, averaging a double-double over her last three complete games. The matchup pits the conferenceās elite against its struggling in-state foe. Troy boasts the leagueās most potent offense, averaging over 80 points per game, while South Alabama has failed to reach 70 points in any game during its current losing streak. The Trojans won the seasonās first meeting 84-59 on Jan. 3. Defense will be a key challenge for the Jaguars, who must find a way to contain Ngnawo and a deep Troy rotation that features four players averaging double-figure scoring. For South Alabama, generating consistent offense beyond Narcisseās interior presence will be critical to snapping its prolonged slump. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CST. The teams will meet again in Mobile just five days later on Feb. 27.
