PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) ā The Atlantic 10-leading and No. 7-ranked Rhode Island Rams put their 14-game winning streak on the line Wednesday night against a La Salle Explorers team finding its rhythm at Tom Gola Arena. The Rams (23-2, 13-0 A-10) have been the class of the conference, boasting the nationās third-longest active win streak. Their latest victory was a 79-63 road win at George Mason on Saturday, powered by a dominant 30-point, 9-rebound performance from star forward Brooklyn Gray. Gray, averaging 18.4 points and 6.2 rebounds in conference play, has scored 20 or more points in three of her last six outings and presents a multifaceted challenge for any opponent. Rhode Islandās success is built on a stifling defense, which leads the A-10 and ranks fifth nationally, allowing just 52.1 points per game. They have held 16 opponents under 55 points this season. The La Salle Explorers (14-11, 8-5), however, have won three of their last four and are 9-3 at home this season. They are coming off a convincing 67-52 win at George Washington, where guard Ashleigh Connor flirted with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Connor has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 17.2 points in A-10 play and scoring in double figures in 13 consecutive games. For La Salle to pull the upset, containing Gray and finding cracks in the Ramsā elite defense will be paramount. The Explorers have shown offensive potency, averaging 72.3 points in their last three wins, but face their toughest defensive test of the season. Rhode Island won the seasonās first meeting in Kingston, 70-46, on Jan. 3. A victory would move the Rams closer to securing the A-10 regular-season title, while La Salle aims to bolster its seeding for the upcoming conference tournament and continue its late-season surge. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
