CEDAR CITY, Utah (Interstat) — A quick rematch with postseason implications is set for Wednesday when the Southern Utah Thunderbirds host the Tarleton State Texans in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game at Centrum Arena. The Thunderbirds (17-8), boasting the stronger overall record, will be looking for revenge and to solidify their conference standing. The Texans (12-12), seeking to get back to .500, arrive with confidence after winning the first two meetings this season. Tarleton State won 81-55 at home on Jan. 15, then edged Southern Utah 59-57 in another tight contest on Feb. 7. Southern Utah enters on a hot streak, having won five of its last six games. The Thunderbirds are led by standout forward Brooklyn Fely, who is coming off a dominant stretch. In her last four games, Fely has averaged 23.3 points and 11.5 rebounds, including a 31-point outburst at California Baptist on Feb. 12 and a 26-point, 17-rebound performance against Abilene Christian on Jan. 31. However, she was held to just 7 points in the last meeting with Tarleton State. The Texans have split their last six games and are coming off a 72-67 home loss to Abilene Christian on Saturday. They will lean on forward Elodie Lutbert, who has been a consistent force. Lutbert scored 18 points with 8 rebounds in that loss and averaged 14.4 points over her last seven contests. Her defensive presence will be key; she recorded multiple blocks in four of those games, including two blocks in the Feb. 7 win over Southern Utah. Southern Utah’s offense, averaging 78 points in its last two wins, will test a Tarleton State defense that has been inconsistent. The Thunderbirds’ Sierra Chambers, who scored 23 points in the win over Texas-Arlington, provides a secondary scoring threat alongside Fely. For Tarleton, balance is crucial. In their Feb. 7 victory, Kyriana Jones added 13 points and Gia Adams dished 7 assists to complement Lutbert’s 9-point effort. Tip-off is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026. The game is a pivotal late-season matchup as both teams jockey for position ahead of their conference tournaments. Southern Utah will aim to protect its home court and avenge its earlier losses, while Tarleton State looks to complete a regular-season sweep and build momentum for a final playoff push.
