LAFAYETTE, La. (Interstat) — The Southern Mississippi Lady Eagles will look to climb back to .500 when they visit the struggling Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup Wednesday night at the Cajundome. Southern Mississippi (13-13) enters on the heels of an 86-77 home victory over Texas State last Saturday, powered by a 27-point performance from guard Jakayla Johnson. The Lady Eagles have split their last six contests. Louisiana-Lafayette (4-22) snapped a two-game skid with a 57-54 road win at South Alabama, also on Saturday. The victory was just the fourth of a difficult season for the Ragin’ Cajuns, who have been outscored by an average of 17.5 points per game. The matchup features two of the conference’s top individual scorers. Southern Mississippi’s Johnson has been on a tear, averaging 21.1 points over her last eight games, including a 32-point outburst in a Jan. 30 overtime win at Old Dominion. She will be the primary focus for the Lady Eagles’ offense. The Ragin’ Cajuns counter with guard Mikaylah Manley, who is coming off a 23-point, 4-rebound effort in the win over South Alabama. Manley has shown high-volume scoring ability, posting 27 points in a loss to Old Dominion and 25 in a win over Coastal Carolina last month. History favors the visitors. In the most recent meeting on Dec. 20, 2025, Southern Mississippi handled Louisiana-Lafayette 76-58 in Hattiesburg. For Southern Mississippi, a win is crucial to maintain momentum ahead of a challenging two-game road trip to Troy and South Alabama. Louisiana-Lafayette seeks to build on its rare victory and find consistency before hosting Arkansas State this weekend. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday.
