Preview: Richmond Looks to Rebound at George Washington WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The 25th-ranked Richmond Spiders will look to bounce back from a rare conference loss when they visit the George Washington Revolutionaries in an Atlantic 10 women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night. Richmond (22-5, 12-2 A-10) saw its eight-game winning streak snapped in a 37-46 defensive struggle at George Mason on Monday. The Spiders’ offense, which averages over 75 points per game, was held to a season low. Prior to that, they had dominated league play, winning their previous eight contests by an average of 24 points. George Washington (13-14, 7-7) has lost three straight, including a 52-67 home defeat to La Salle on Saturday. The Revolutionaries have struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses for much of the conference schedule. The matchup features a contrast in styles. Richmond, led by dynamic guard Ally Sweeney, emphasizes a efficient, high-assist offense. Sweeney, who scored 27 points in a win at VCU on Feb. 1, is averaging 12.5 points and 5.1 assists in conference play. She will be tasked with reigniting a unit that shot just 25% from the field on Monday. George Washington will counter inside with forward Gabby Reynolds, who is coming off a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double. Reynolds has been a bright spot during the skid, averaging 16.2 points and 6.2 rebounds over her last five games. Richmond won the first meeting this season, 71-57, at home on Feb. 7. In that game, Sweeney had 16 points and four assists, while Reynolds was held to nine points for George Washington. For the Spiders, the focus is on reclaiming their offensive rhythm and maintaining their hold atop the A-10 standings. For the Revolutionaries, the game represents an opportunity to halt a slide and secure a signature win against a ranked opponent at the Charles E. Smith Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. Richmond will host La Salle on Sunday, while George Washington travels to George Mason on Saturday.
