PHOENIX (Interstat) — The New Mexico Lobos seek to avenge a recent home loss and solidify their winning season when they visit the Grand Canyon Antelopes in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night. The Lobos (17-9) enter Grand Canyon University Arena looking to rebound from a 66-46 home defeat to Colorado State last Saturday. Despite that loss, New Mexico has won six of its last nine games. The Antelopes (9-16), meanwhile, aim to halt a two-game skid after falling 74-65 at UNLV on Feb. 14. This game is a quick rematch of a Jan. 17 meeting in Albuquerque, where Grand Canyon secured a 75-62 victory. That result will likely provide motivation for the visiting Lobos. A key player to watch for New Mexico is Alyssa Hargrove. The guard is coming off a team-high 12-point performance in the loss to Colorado State and has been a consistent contributor on both ends of the floor. Over her last seven games, Hargrove has averaged 4.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while providing defensive versatility. Grand Canyon will counter with guard Karley Johnson, who logged 35 minutes and scored 11 points with three assists in the Antelopes’ most recent outing. Her backcourt play will be crucial against New Mexico’s pressure. The Lobos have shown resilience on the road this season, including a 58-51 win at Wyoming on Feb. 4. Grand Canyon has found success at home recently, winning three of its last four in Phoenix, including a 57-44 victory over San Diego State on Feb. 4. Following this contest, New Mexico returns to conference play at home against Air Force on Saturday. Grand Canyon remains at home to host Utah State the same day.
