FAIRBORN, Ohio (Interstat) — Two Horizon League women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Wright State Raiders host the Milwaukee Panthers at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Both teams enter with struggling overall records, but recent performances suggest a competitive matchup. Milwaukee (8-19) is looking to snap a three-game skid, most recently a 56-59 home loss to Northern Kentucky on Feb. 12. Wright State (9-18) arrives with some confidence after winning two of its last three, including a decisive 62-44 road victory at Oakland on Feb. 14. The game is a quick rematch of a Jan. 31 meeting in Milwaukee, which the Panthers won 75-70. That result will likely be on the minds of both squads. A key player to watch for Milwaukee is Jorey Buwalda, who dominated the last matchup against Wright State with 17 points and eight rebounds. Buwalda is coming off a 12-point, seven-rebound performance against Northern Kentucky and has been a consistent scorer for the Panthers. Wright State will counter with guard Breezie Williams, who is coming off a spectacular 24-point, seven-rebound outing against Oakland. Williams was held to nine points in the loss at Milwaukee last month but dished out eight assists. Her scoring surge will be central to the Raiders’ hopes for revenge. The game will feature two of the league’s lower-tier teams battling for positioning ahead of the Horizon League tournament. Milwaukee sits just one game behind Wright State in the loss column of the conference standings, adding stakes to the midweek contest. Following Wednesday’s game, Milwaukee will visit Green Bay on Saturday. Wright State will travel to face Northern Kentucky on Saturday.
