Preview: Army Hosts Loyola Maryland in Patriot League Women’s Basketball WEST POINT, N.Y. (Interstat) — The surging Army women’s basketball team looks to continue its dominant season when it hosts Loyola Maryland in a Patriot League matchup Wednesday at Christl Arena. The Black Knights (20-5 overall) enter with the conference’s best record, having won five of their last six games. Their most recent outing was an 86-56 rout of American on Saturday, a game in which Reese Ericson scored 21 points. Ericson has been a consistent force, averaging 16.4 points over her last five contests. Army defeated Loyola Maryland 71-66 in Baltimore on Jan. 7 in the teams’ first meeting this season. The visiting Greyhounds (11-14) have struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses over their past six games. They are coming off a 49-40 road loss at Holy Cross on Saturday. Guard Amandine Amorich led Loyola with 12 points in that defeat and has been a bright spot, scoring in double figures in three of her last five appearances. Army’s defense, which allows a league-low 54.2 points per game, will be tested by Amorich’s perimeter play. However, the Black Knights boast a balanced attack. In the win over American, Camryn Tade added 22 points and Kya Smith recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Loyola Maryland, which has not won consecutive games since early January, will need to find offensive rhythm against one of the nation’s top defensive units. Beyond Amorich, production has varied, making a road upset a formidable challenge. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip-off. Army will host Navy on Saturday in its next contest, while Loyola Maryland will prepare to host Colgate on Sunday.
