High Point Aims to Continue Dominance at UNC Asheville ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — The High Point Panthers, boasting one of the nation’s top records, visit the UNC Asheville Bulldogs in a Big South Conference women’s basketball matchup Wednesday at Kimmel Arena. High Point (22-4, 11-2 Big South) enters on a roll, having won eight of its last nine games. The Panthers’ lone conference loss since December was a 75-73 overtime setback to Longwood on Feb. 11. They are coming off a 64-48 victory over Charleston Southern on Saturday, fueled by a standout performance from guard Aaliyah Collins. Collins, the Panthers’ dynamic scorer, is averaging 24.3 points over her last three games. She poured in 29 points with three assists and three blocks in 38 minutes against Charleston Southern, following a 24-point effort in the overtime loss to Longwood. UNC Asheville (10-16, 5-8) looks to build momentum after a 63-57 road win at South Carolina Upstate on Saturday, which snapped a two-game skid. The Bulldogs are led by guard Jamaria Freeman, who posted 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists in that victory. Freeman recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in a loss to Longwood on Feb. 7. The teams met earlier this season on Dec. 31, with High Point securing a commanding 78-51 home victory. The Panthers have dominated the recent series, winning the last five meetings. High Point’s success has been built on a stifling defense, holding opponents to an average of 55.2 points per game in conference play. Offensively, they share the load behind Collins, with Macy Spencer adding 24 points in the last outing. UNC Asheville, which has struggled with consistency, will need a strong defensive effort to contain Collins and find offensive production beyond Freeman. Forward Nia Green, who had 16 points and six rebounds Saturday, is a key interior presence. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off. High Point visits Gardner-Webb on Saturday, while UNC Asheville hosts Presbyterian the same day.
